The theme of this year’s EDF is Scaling up the European data economy EDF2016 will take place on June 29 and 30 in Eindhoven.

Jan Mengelers has been Chairman of the Executive Board of Eindhoven University of Technology since 2014. He gained his engineer’s title in mechanical engineering at TU/e in 1979. After his studies he became a scientific researcher at the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN). From 1982 to 1984 he carried out scientific research at the Philips ‘NatLab’ – the Philips Research Laboratories. From 1984 to 1997 he held a numbgrer of management positions at Nedcar, the last your years as Managing Director, Product Design & Engineering. From 1997 to 2001 Mengelers was President & CEO of Neways Electronics International. From 2001 until 2014 he was with TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), where he was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Management on 1 April 2008.

Günther H. Oettinger is European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society since 1st November 2014. On 10th February 2010 he became European Commissioner for Energy and from 1st July – 31st October 2014, he was Vice-president of the European Commission. From 2005-2010, he was Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg (Germany) and, since 1984, a member of the regional Parliament (“Landtag”). He was the leader of the CDU Landtag group from January 1991 to April 2005.

A lawyer by training, Günther H. Oettinger became actively involved in politics during his adolescence. He is a member of the Federal Executive Committee and of the Steering Committee of the CDU in Germany.
